Canadian Programming
AS/COA initiated its Canadian program in the mid-1970s to address collective issues and concerns of member companies with interests in Canada. In the 1980s, the Canadian Affairs program became extremely active in the process of the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement. The engagement of the Council was also a critical force in the 1994 passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Former Consul General of Canada to New York Pamela Wallen joined the AS/COA as Senior Advisor to the President to further strengthen the Council's Canadian chapter.
