Itiberê Zwarg
Americas Society presents Jazz Studies Online (www.jazzstudiesonline.org), a website dedicated to considering jazz from a broad and multidisciplinary perspective. Jazz Studies Online is a project of the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University.

The event will begin with a panel discussion featuring special guest bassist Itiberê Zwarg and led by pianist/composer and specialist in Brazilian Popular Music, Cliff Korman. The conversation will focus on the presence of improvisation in the genre and on Zwarg’s work on Música Universal, an approach to music making created and inspired by Hermeto Pascoal, and carried forward by a number of musicians who emerged from his ensembles. The event will also include a presentation on the CJS website and a performance by Korman and Zwarg.

Watch the Itiberê Orquestra Família in a performance of his Pedra Vermelha.
